Start with a tile approved for your floor
A tile's appearance does not establish where it can be used. Confirm that the selected product is recommended for the actual floor application, including its expected traffic and moisture exposure.

Compare scale, pattern and the full layout
Look beyond the center of the room. Tile size and layout influence the cuts at walls, the pattern through doorways and the way the floor meets a vanity or island. Bring approximate room dimensions and photographs showing those boundaries.
A larger format can create a different rhythm from a smaller format, but there is no universal tile size for every room. Compare the look with the practical layout and the preparation the selected tile needs. Review shade or pattern variation across the product rather than judging the entire floor from one piece.

- Compare grout with the tile rather than choosing it at the end.
- Plan the transition where tile meets another flooring material.
- Confirm edge pieces, trim and layout before finalizing quantities.
Make finish and grout part of the choice
Compare the surface in the context of daily use, including shoes, spills and cleaning. Do not choose a floor solely because the finish is called matte, polished or textured; check the specific product's recommended use.
Grout close to the tile color can soften the grid, while contrast emphasizes the pattern. Review joint size, grout selection and cleaning guidance with the tile and installation requirements. A preferred visual joint should not replace the manufacturer's recommendations.
Plan what happens beneath and around the tile
An installation review considers the whole supporting floor, not just the visible surface. Share known cracks, movement, moisture concerns and changes in height. The substrate, preparation and setting materials need to suit the proposed installation.
Movement joints allow for expansion and contraction; their locations depend on the installation and site conditions. Discuss those details with the installer alongside doorways, adjoining materials and finished edges.
If you already have an installer, bring their material requirements and quantities. For TDH installation, review removal, preparation, layout, trim and access so your quote defines the work included.
Tile Flooring Questions Before You Order
Can tile be installed over my existing floor?
Sometimes, but the existing covering, supporting layers and selected installation materials must be assessed together. A sound-looking surface alone is not enough to confirm suitability. Have the conditions checked before deciding whether removal is needed.
Can the same tile cover the bathroom and shower floors?
Only if the specific product is approved for both applications and suits each installation. Confirm shower-floor suitability separately; a general floor recommendation does not automatically include a shower floor.
What affects a tile-flooring quote?
The product, coverage, layout, cuts, transitions, grout and finishing details matter. Installation pricing also depends on the existing floor, removal and preparation requirements. Send photos, approximate measurements, the project location and preferred timing.
